Having worked as traders in the organic fruit and vegetable sector for a number of years, Fred Kloen and Edward Out decided to set up Tellus Produce B.V. They opened the doors to the office on the Bronsweg in Lelystad on 1 September 2001. Tellus Produce B.V. focused initially on the export of organically certified vegetables grown in the Netherlands and Belgium, but soon began to expand the range and the import of fruit became an increasingly important activity.
In 2003, Tradin Organic Agriculture from Amsterdam approached Tellus Produce B.V. to discuss the possibility of working together with their daughter company Trabana B.V. (specialised in organic bananas and exotic fruit). The Board of Directors of Tradin Organic Agriculture and Tellus Produce B.V. finally decided to consolidate the activities of Tellus Produce B.V. and Trabana B.V., and the Organic Trade Company Holland B.V. (trade name OTC Holland) came into being on 1 April 2004.
As OTC Holland was able to make use of the large network and support facilities of Tradin Organic Agriculture, its import activities expanded considerably between 2005 and 2007.
At the end of 2007, the Board of Directors of OTC Holland was informed by the shareholder Tradin Organic Agriculture that it would be taken over by the Canadian company Sunopta Incorporated. Tellus Produce B.V. therefore acquired all OTC Holland shares, which continued as an independent company.
OTC Holland remains independent, and Matthé Hendrikse has now joined the Board of Directors. The concern has continued to grow and now has 22 employees and several companies. The organic market is becoming increasingly popular, also amongst consumers, and OTC is therefore confidently building for the future.
The three core values at OTC are organic integrity, transparency and commitment. These core values are anchored in our organisation, our work and what drives us as a company. We search for a sustainable balance in the supply chain and respect our growers/suppliers, buyers, partners and employees.
More than organically certified
Organic integrity – that is what it is all about at OTC. OTC guarantees its organic integrity by working exclusively with organically certified growers and suppliers. In addition, our Quality Manager regularly carries out audits at our growers in the Netherlands and abroad. We check the quality of all incoming organic produce, which must meet high quality standards. We also carry out laboratory analyses so that we can be sure that the produce does not contain any residues. Naturally, we also have all the required certification for our import, export, storage, distribution and packaging activities. Operations at OTC can be described as pure and honest, with no artificial processes. We also take a transparent, direct approach in all our communications and business dealings with our partners.
Crystal-clear and direct
Thanks to our many years of experience, we have a thorough knowledge of the organic market and produce. This also means that we are able to recognise trends and developments in the organic fruit and vegetables sector as no other. We communicate sales opportunities clearly and handle financial matters quickly and efficiently. We are always mindful of the quality of the produce that we sell and offer a high level of service.

OTC works together with many different parties every day, from growers/suppliers and buyers to our partners and colleagues in certification, quality control, storage, packaging and distribution. Our aim is to build and maintain long-term relationships with all our partners. In fact, we regard this as a duty. As is providing the best produce possible, the best possible service and the fastest delivery.
